Finally, a science team building event that’s neither over-constrained (ie. “Gravity Vehicle” – everyone’s thing looks and works exactly the same) nor a joke (ie. “Bottle Rockets” – …seriously?). This arm was built for the Robotic Arm science olympiad event in in January – March 2012. The real goal of the project, apart from doing well at the event, was to gain more experience with Arduino<->computer communication, servo motor control, making custom Arduino shields, and writing Cocoa applications.
We took first place at regionals in February and first place at the MA state science olympiad in March! Unfortunately, we did not advance to Nationals because the overall team score was lower (we still got second place overall, which is amazing!).
